Apple has updated the Remote iPhone app, bringing it to version 1.3 and making it compatible with the new iPhone OS Version 3. The app lets users control music playback on a computer or Apple TV. Additionally Remote let users control speakers connected through AirTunes.
The v1.3 update lets users control an Apple TV with multi-touch finger gestures. Use of the gestures requires the iPhone 3.0 firmware.
Known Multi-Touch Finger Gestures
- Tap: play or pause the current song or video.
- Drag left or right: fast-forward or rewind.
- Flick left or right: skips to the next track (music), fast-forwards or rewinds (video).
- Flick down (video only): show chapter markers, then flick left or right to skip chapters.
- Drag two fingers left (video only): invoke a 10-second replay.
Apple TV software was upgraded to version 2.4 to support the new version of the remote software. What else is in 2.4 version of the software is something Apple has not shared yet.
