Alongside the release of Apple’s new battery case, the company has also updated its Lightning to SD Card adapter. The new version has the same design and name as its predecessor, but the chipset in the reader has been updated to utilize the iPad Pro’s faster USB 3.0 transfer speeds.
The packaging is also the same between the two versions — model MJYT2AM/A is the new USB 3.0 version. Original model MD822ZM/A is the USB 2.0 model. The new version is backwards compatible with older Lightning devices at USB 2.0 speeds, but at present, the only Lightning product with USB 3.0 is the iPad Pro.
The Lighting to SD Card adapter still retails for $29.
