The Nintendo Switch games list will soon be joined by ARMS, which is getting great early response. ARMS is an upcoming motion controlled fighting game with a June 16 release date. The subject of the latest Nintendo Direct conference, fans have finally been given a look at the characters, abilities and mini-games that will be included in the final release.
According to Nintendo, ARMS features a standard battle mode for two players, complete with special power-ups that fall from the sky. Team Fight is a 2-v-2 team-based game mode in which teammates are tethered together.
There’s also a volleyball-style game in which players knock an explosive ball into the opponent’s court and a basketball game in which players try to dunk their rivals. Skillshot tasks players with destroying as many targets as possible using the versatile powers of ARMS, while 1-on-100 pits challenges players to defeat 100 enemies in a row.
Other game modes include Grand Prix and Party Match, the latter of which lets up to 20 players get together in the same lobby.Local Wireless Mode lets eight players connect their Switch consoles and battle up to three players at a time.
Nintendo also announced plans to release free software updates in the future, complete with additional maps, fighters and weapons.Equally as exciting is the Global Testpunch demo event, which lets players check out the game ahead of launch.The first demo event runs from May 27 to May 28, followed by a second trial from June 3 until June 4. Players can download the free demo from the Nintendo Switch eShop to take part.
The ten characters available at launch include…

- Kid Cobra – A fan of selfie sticks and livestreaming, this hip fighter pounces on opponents with a charged-up dash.
- Ribbon Girl – Possessing next-level jumping skills, Ribbon Girl violates the laws of physics with her unbeatable power.
- Helix – Who is Helix? He’s an experiment gone wrong, that’s who. His springy body lets him move in unpredictable ways.
- Mechanica – This mechanical genius dons a homemade power suit that can hover above the competition.
- Byte & Barq – Two fighters in one! This robot fighter and his robot canine companion battle together to unleash devastating combo attacks.
- Twintelle – As an A-list actress, Twintelle uses her celebrity status to render her opponents utterly star struck as she walks the red carpet to victory.
