ASRock has just done first when it comes to motherboards. They just got Intel’s official blessing for Thunderbolt host connectivity on an AMD-based board.
ASRock’s X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 packs a Thunderbolt 3 port form the time it was released But until now, it wasn’t certified for Thunderbolt.
Back in 20109, Intel decided to allow the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) to oversee the latest specification of Thunderbolt 2. This was part of an effort to expand the availability of Thunderbolt 3.
Thunderbolt 3 uses the USB Type-C style port, while running at 40Gbps of bandwidth. That is twice as fast as the speediest USB 3.2 TGen 2×2 standard (20Gbps). The bi-directional standard allows for a daisy chain up to six devices.
The upcoming USB4 standard will allow devices and ports to support Thunderbolt devices.
