“Parks and Recreation” star Aubrey Plaza is, according to a story today at Variety, set to join the cast of the upcoming 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. She’ll star opposite the previously-attached Zac Efron (Neighbors, High School Musical), Adam DeVine (“Workaholics,” The Final Girls) and Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect, Into the Woods).
The raunchy original comedy follows two brothers (Efron will play Mike with DeVine starring as Dave) who place an online ad to find dates for a wedding, only to have the ad go viral.
TV director Jake Szymanski, best known for his work on “SNL” and “Funny or Die,” has been tapped to helm the comedy from a script by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien. Peter Chernin, David Ready, Jenno Topping and Jonathan Levine will produce with Daria Cercek overseeing for Fox.
Plaza, whose big screen work includes films like Life After Beth, The To-Do List and Safety Not Guaranteed, also recently provided the voice of the popular internet feline in the made-for-TV holiday special “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.” She can be seen coming up in Jamie Babbit’s Fresno, Zachary Sluser’s The Driftless Area and in the Universal Pictures comedy Dirty Grandpa, also with Efron.
