Avid has announced the latest version of their editing flagship, Avid Media Composer. The latest version is designed to easily acquire, manage, edit and deliver native 4K media more quickly and efficiently than ever. This new release is part of the Avid Artist Suite of creative tools, and leverages Avid Everywhere for interoperability between apps within the suite.

Media Composer leverages new Avid Resolution Independence architecture and new Avid DNxHR encoding to deliver on the promise of a complete and flexible end-to-end editing workflow for file-based editing of any resolution. The idea behind Avid Resolution Independence is to remove the limitation on resolutions the editing app is capable of capturing, editing or outputting. From SD to 4K and beyond, Media Composer is up to the challenge. While this is the first Avid application to enjoy the freedom of Resolution Independence, more products and solutions in the Avid stable will enjoy the feature soon enough.

Along with the resolution features, other new capabilities in the latest version of Media Composer include enhanced color management, high frame rate support, high-efficiency proxy workflows, and background rendering of high-resolution media.

The new version of Media Composer is available now for $49 per month on a subscription basis, or $1,299 as a traditional standalone software application.
