Netflix subscribers will soon be able to treat themselves: Aziz Ansari’s new stand-up special, Buried Alive, will premiere exclusively on the streaming service.
Netflix will be the only place fans can first catch Ansari’s new material; the Parks and Rec star’s set will debut November 1. Currently, fans can stream Ansari’s old comedy specials, including 2009′s Aziz Ansari: Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening and 2012′s Aziz Ansari: Dangerously Delicious, on Netflix, although neither of those premiered there.
In June, Netflix presented a comedy special by John Hodgman, and last week it presented the premiere of one by Mike Birbiglia. Ansari’s show is unlike those, a Netflix spokeswoman said, because “the company intends to put a significant promotional campaign behind Buried Alive, billing it as original programming.”
Expect to see a lot more from the man behind Tom Haverford. Last week, Ansari signed a deal to write a book investigating the modern, tech-obsessed dating scene, which is expected to be released in 2015.
