The BBC has finally brought its iPlayer streaming video player to the Xbox 360 for UK residents. The app enables users to access many of the latest BBC television content, along with the company’s radio stations and select programs from other broadcasters.
The Xbox app offers the same basic functionality as equivalent offerings for the PS3, Wii and mobile devices, however it is specifically geared for Microsoft’s Kinect sensor. Basic controls can be manipulated via hand gestures or voice recognition, though full access to all settings requires traditional navigation using the console’s hardware controller.
The BBC recently confirmed that it is considering launching its own digital video store, which would be stocked with many of the company’s archived videos alongside new content after it is broadcast. Full plans have yet to be formally confirmed, leaving it unclear if the service is headed for game consoles or other devices.
Xbox Live subscribers in the UK can download the iPlayer app for free.
