Bird plans to open its largest European hub in Paris and hire 1,000 people over the next two years. Bird’s European headquarters are in Amsterdam.
The LA based firm has only had and service center in Paris whhch has around 100 employees. the planned new office will have operations, government outreach, legal and marketing per Bird announcement.
The number of so-called trottinettes, what we in the US called e-scooters are may hit 40,000 by year’s end. Right now they are around a dozen firms renting scooter inthe ciy of lights including US based Lime.
“When we launched in Paris nearly a year ago we were blown away by how quickly Parisians took to our service,” said Bird’s founder and chief executive Travis VanderZanden in a statement. “The adoption signalled a need and desire for an alternative to cars.
He added: “The city really is a global leader in the fight against climate change and we want to help them achieve their goals by committing even further to the city.”
Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo has planned to crack down on the “anarchy” due to the proliferation e-scooters on the streets of la Ville Lumière.
