After winning an Oscar for her performance in Room and nabbing the lead in Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel, Brie Larson is parlaying her newfound glory to kickstart a directing career via the indie comedy Unicorn Store, which The Hollywood Reporter says she will helm as well as produce and star in.
Unicorn Store revolves around a woman named Kit (Larson) who is forced to move back in with her parents. When she receives a mysterious invitation to the title store, it winds up testing her idea of what it really means to grow up.
Samantha McIntyre penned the original screenplay, which was originally lined up as a vehicle for Rebel Wilson with Miguel Arteta behind the camera.
David Bernad and Ruben Fleischer will produce the film alongside Larson through their outfit The District, alongside Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas of Rhea Films.
Larson, who previously co-wrote and co-directed the Sundance Jury Prize-winning short The Arm, will next be seen in Ben Wheatley’s crime thriller Free Fire, followed by a starring role in the drama The Glass Castle and the female lead in Legendary’s blockbuster Kong: Skull Island.
