Today, Tate Multimedia revealed new gameplay from its upcoming motorcycle combat game called Steel Rats. The trailer shows off the “diesel-soaked” world of Steel Rats and the stunt-based motorbike combat that fuels it. The title was announced in November 2017, but it’s launching later this year on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. According to the developer, Steel Rats is an evolution of the 2.5D action-arcade genre because it fuses destructive combat with stunt gameplay.
Tate Multimedia has experience with the motorbiking genre because the team has also worked on a game called Urban Trial Playground. Urban Trial Playground is essentially a Trials Fusion-like game. However, Steel Rats appears to the next step for the studio.
Players join a punk biker gang known as the Steel Rats, and choose from a selection of unique characters. The customization doesn’t end there though, as gamers can unlock new special abilities along the way and much more if they’re skilled enough.
The video also highlights advanced physics and exploration that allows vertical riding and seamlessly changing lanes. Creating depth is incredibly important to the developer and that’s why there are numerous ways to explore the levels.
