According to DownDetector, many of the major sites are down or have been today. Wireless carriers have hit harder than other. Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, Amazon, Google, Snapchat, Sprint, T-Mobile and Discord are some the tops sited on the list.
The outage appears to be due to a problem with networking company Cloudflare. The firm says that it has identified a route leak that impacted service and has been working to fix the issue. Over 16 million sites use Cloudflare, so the odds are not favor that you will be affected by the outage.
Cloudflare says it’s working on a “possible route leak” affecting some of its network, but services like Discord have been inaccessible for nearly 45 minutes now. “Discord is affected by the general internet outage,” says a Discord statement on the company’s status site. “Hang tight. Pet your cats.”
The problems started at around 7 am EDT this morning and are affecting mobile communications in the Northeastern United States, parts of Texas, Washington state, and southern California. Cities where service is disrupted include Philadelphia, New York City, Washington, Brooklyn, Denver, Baltimore, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Portland, Houston, Dallas, and Alexandria.
