With the franchise’s 20th anniversary later this year, the street has CBS in talks to revive the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as a limited series.
Discussions are underway with producer Anthony Zuiker, Jerry Bruckheimer and the show’s creative team to bring back the procedural which originally premiered October 2000 and ran through until 2015. It also spawned three spin-off series including ‘Miami’ (10 seasons), ‘New York’ (9 seasons) and ‘Cyber’ (2 seasons).
Jason Tracey (Elementary,) will write the script for the limited series, hand-picked by Bruckheimer who is spearheading the revival which will be set in Las Vegas. It’s unclear if any of the original stars like William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, George Eads or Paul Guilfoyle will be back.
At one time CSI was the most-watched TV show in the world, though the multi-billion dollar mega-franchise was ultimately supplanted by the NCIS franchise which remains CBS’ biggest cash cow.
