Damon and Affleck Announce the Return of Project Greenlight

Project GreenlightFirst airing in the early 2000s, “Project Greenlight” ran three seasons (the first two on HBO, the third on Bravo) and turned the struggle to make it in Hollywood into a reality series style event. But a bit classier than the stuff you see now.

The results were interesting, with the show—that follows a first time filmmaker through the steps of making their debut feature—bringing the Shia LaBeouf starring “The Battle Of Shaker Heights” and the horror “Feast” (which spawned two sequels) to the masses. And now, nearly a decade after it ended, producers Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are bringing it back.

The pair have hit the web to announce the return of “Project Greenlight,” and the format is pretty much as you remember it. A Hollywood-vetted script will be given to a newcomer (determined by an online contest) to make their first feature film, and the show will follow them every step of the way, from pre-production and casting through principal photography and post-production.

And along with the way, industry veterans will offer support and advice to the newbie director. “ ‘Project Greenlight’ was ahead of its time,” Affleck said in a press release. “Now that technology has caught up to the concept, we thought it was a perfect time to bring it back. A whole new generation of filmmakers has grown up sharing everything, and the next big director could be just an upload away.”

So if you’re got some shorts kicking around, now the’s time to see if you can make the leap to the big time. Watch Affleck and Damon announce the return of the show below.
