To mark the one year until the release of the film, 20th Century Fox has just revealed an online prequel comic that will bridge the gap between 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and next summer’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. No word on if this will stay as an online comic or whether it will be published in a physical format at a later date, but you can visit the website at Apes2014.com and see the pages yourself, or check out a few of them below.
Directed by Matt Reeves with a script from Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Mark Bomback, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the story that began in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and features a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, Jocko Sims, and Judy Greer.
In the film, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will open on July 18, 2014.
