DC to Offer Exclusive Retailer Variant Cover on Justice League #1

DC Comics rarely offers retailer exclusive variants. While Marvel pumps out seven to 17 a month, probably devaluing the appeal in the process, DC Comics put out one every three months or so and make it a little more special.

Publishers allow retailers, comic conventions, subscription boxes, and even creators to commission original covers for a certain comic, exclusive to them, as long as they order thousands of copies. It’s an effective, if expensive way for both parties to a) get some promotion and create collectables for the market, and b) up their orders. Begun by Dreamwave back in the day, it was popularised by IDW, and now is commonplace. Relatively.

The next up is Action Comics #1000.

And after that? Justice League #1. Man, that’s only two months after Action Comics #1, clearly DC are stepping up.

Written by Scott Snyder and featuring art and cover by Jim Cheung, issue #1 ushers in a brand-new era as the team is launched into a cosmos-shaking mystery that will draw out their most terrible foes…in ways our heroes couldn’t possibly imagine! In this debut issue, Martian Manhunter struggles to protect the team from an incoming threat that will shatter the world as they know it, while a familiar face strikes out on a dark path…

Justice League #1 is on sale on June 6th.
