Dell Drops Price of XPS 10 Windows RT Tablet

Dell has lowered the price of its Windows RT tablet from $449 to $299. The drop in price of the XPS 10 slate, possibly due to the underwhelming sales of Windows RT-based tablets across the industry, is accompanied by discounted additions to the tablet, including the keyboard dock and doubling the internal storage.

Increasing the initial 32GB of storage to 64GB costs an extra $50, instead of the $100 it would have cost previously, according to Engadget, with the optional keyboard dock available as a $50 extra in a bundle. Adding a case costs $30, down from $40, but putting 4G LTE onto the tablet remains the same, priced as a $100 extra.

Windows RT has generally seen sluggish sales, with even Microsoft’s own Surface failing to gain any significant traction. The software maker has reportedly updated its requirements to allow smaller form factor devices, such as those with a 7 or 8-inch screen, to exist. This could theoretically allow for cheaper Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets to go on sale.
