While star Michael Fassbender has been signed on for the video game adaptation for more than a year, Assassin’s Creed has only just named its director. Deadline reports that Justin Kurzel (who just worked with Fassbender on the upcoming Macbeth) will direct the May 22, 2015 release.
The original game involves Desmond Miles, captured by a secret organization with ties to the Knight Templar who repeatedly send Miles back in time into the body of his assassin ancestors to retrieve valuable historical artifacts, the first time going back to the Crusades.
Fassbender is also set to co-produce with Frank Marshall. Michael Lesslie is providing the adapted screenplay.
