Disney Channel has given a formal pilot order to sitcom “Paige & Frankie,” Variety is reporting. The project hails from Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman. The two writers are in Disney Channel’s inaugural Storytellers program, which is designed to develop the next generation of creators and writers of for kids, tween and family programming.
“Paige & Frankie” revolves around two 12 year-old up-and-coming musicians who write and perform comedic songs about their everyday lives. They believe in themselves and — although they have a limited fanbase and perform gigs in barbershops and basements — they are determined to achieve their dream of becoming famous artists.
Newcomers Olivia Rodrigo and Madison Hu have been cast to star in the potential series. The diverse actors play title duo Paige and Frankie, respectively.
“Paige & Frankie” heads into production next month, and is in contention for a series order to land on Disney Channel later this year.
