Already available on PC and mobile, Heroes of Loot from Orange Pixel is coming to PlayStation Vita on September 22 in North America and Europe. A new take on the classic 80’s version of Gauntlet, Heroes of Loot is a dungeon crawler where the “deep statistical stuff of roguelikes” has been replaced with arcade shooting.
Abstraction Games Creative Director Tj’ien Twijnstra adds:
“Orange Pixel’s goal was to create something that had the old feeling of the 8-bit classic but was updated with various current design concepts and tricks, including procedurally generated content, random quests, and just a lot of non-serious action. Another great thing about Heroes of Loot is that the game keeps on giving, even when you reach level 30 or 40 — players will still discover new things and run into monsters that they haven’t seen before.”
Heroes of Loot Developer and Designer Pascal Bestebroer also comments about how Heroes of Loot was almost cancelled:
“It took a lot of tries and changes to get the current gameplay “working”. Gameplay elements really came together in the final weeks of development (from a nine-month development cycle). This might have had a lot to do with me having very little dungeon-crawling game experience to begin with.”
Orange Pixel didn’t give a price for Heroes of Loot, but it is $4.99 on Steam, so expect it to be around there.
