Eriq La Salle (ER) has confirmed he will not be appearing in the upcoming sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 comedy classic Coming to America – Coming 2 America.
In the first film, La Salle played Darryl Jenks, the obnoxious boyfriend of Lisa McDowell who becomes the love interest and eventual wife of Murphy’s royal prince Akeem. D
Luckly, La Salle isone of the few stars from the original who won’t be returning. His absence is due to his shooting schedule for Chicago P.D., which he executive produces and directs. He told The Grio:
“No… I’ve already given you an answer. No… Straight to the point. I knew where you were going with it… I’m a little busy right now… with this show.”
Coming 2 America will be set in the modern-day with Prince Akeem travelling back to the United States to find his long-lost son. Murphy, Shari Headley, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos, Louie Anderson, Paul Bates, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Garcelle Beauvais will all reprise their roles.
Leslie Jones, Rick Ross, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, KiKi Layne, and Wesley Snipes will also star in the film,
Coming 2 America is set to premiere in theaters on December 18th 2020.
