Facebook said it is broadening the availability of a feature that provides users with more background information about publishers and articles to everyone in the U.S.
The idea is to help people understand the context of the publisher of articles so they can assess how trustworthy the news source is. Moving forward, Facebook will provide links to the publisher’s Wikipedia entry, related articles on the same topic, information about how many times a given story has been shared on Facebook, where it has been shared and by whom.
The social network is also kicking off another test by providing more information about the article’s author, including a link to the author’s Wikipedia entry, their Page Profile, and other articles the author may have published.
Facebook hopes these tools will help people find, read, and share content from trustworthy sources.
