Facebook today made new controls available to uses for managing their account, settings, and data.
Facebook says it redesigned the entire settings menu on mobile devices to improve discoverability. It reduced what was previously spread across nearly 20 screens down to a single page. The app includes a revised privacy shortcuts menu, which provides control over data in “just a few taps” with better descriptions of the actions being taken.
Now people can make their account more secure by adding two-factor authentication; control their personal information by reviewing what’s being shared and delete what they no longer wish to share; control which ads are served by managing preferences; and manage who sees posts or the information included on user profiles.
Further, the company is making more obvious the tools users need in order to download and delete their Facebook data. A function called Access Your Information provides a secure way for people to manage their posts, reactions, comments, searches, and more.
Customers can also use this to download their data, including photos, posts, and contacts, in a file that can be moved to another service if they wish.
Facebook said it plans to update its terms of service and data policy in the coming weeks so users have a better idea of what Facebook is collecting and how it is being used. The company will share more news on this front as it develops.
