Facebook today made its slimmed-down messaging app a bit more powerful with the addition of video chatting.
Facebook calls video chats “an expected and essential part of everyday communication” and the company is pleased to offer the functionality to users of the Messenger Lite app.
Messenger Lite already offers core messaging tools, such as text, photos, links, and audio calls. It easily connects to people who use either Messenger Lite or the full version of Messenger. Once people update to the new version of Messenger Lite, a video icon will appear in the upper right corner of conversations allowing for instant video chats.
Facebook says Messenger Lite users can also upgrade audio-only calls to video chats with but a tap. Messenger Lite is meant for older Android devices or for use in areas where networks may not be as robust.
The app is free to download from the Google Play Store.
