Fiat Chrysler says pricing for the redesigned 2017 Jeep Compass will start at more than $22,000, while the compact crossover will become the second most-fuel efficient Jeep after the Renegade. FCA indicated that Compass pricing would start at $22,090 for the base two-wheel-drive sport trim, including delivery, with awd in the sport model available as a $1,500 option. The mid-level Latitude model will start at $25,390, while the higher Trailhawk awd trim would start at $29,690 and the top-end awd Limited trim at $30,990, all including shipping.

The redesigned Compass, which is now built for the U.S. in Toluca, Mexico, is equipped with a 2.4-liter I-4 engine and one of three transmissions: a nine-speed automatic, a six-speed automatic and a six-speed manual. The manual-equipped two-wheel drive Compass produces the highest fuel economy ratings at 23 city/32 hwy/26 combined, while the same all-wheel-drive Compass is rated at 22 city/31 hwy/25 combined by the EPA.

The two-wheel-drive Compass equipped with a six-speed automatic earned an identical 22 city/31 hwy/25 combined rating, while the all-wheel drive equipped with the nine-speed automatic was rated at 22 city/30 hwy/25 combined.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine, nine-speed automatic transmission and two-wheel drive carries an EPA mpg rating of 22 city/30 hwy/25 combined, and 21 city, 29 hwy, 24 combined with four-wheel drive. FCA said the redesigned Compass, which now shares a platform with the smaller Jeep Renegade, would begin shipping to U.S. dealerships next week. The company expects dealers to be fully stocked with the Compass in about two months.
