Ten years they’ve been rusting, needing so much more than dusting! Today, we’ve got our very first look at Cogsworth and Lumiere as they appear in next year’s hugely-anticipated, live-action Beauty and the Beast. The above shot, which is included as part of a preview on the upcoming 25th Anniversary Blu-ray edition of the 1991 animated version, was posted to Twitter by user Maconodom. Check out the photos, including Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, and Dan Stevens as the prince, below!
A Walt Disney Pictures production, director Bill Condon’s live-action take on Beauty and the Beast stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as Beast, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s father), Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster and Stanley Tucci as a grand piano named Cadenza.
It’s hard to tell from today’s photo exactly how anthropomorphized Cogsworth and Lumiere will be in the final film as the split-screen image seems to pair the characters with an “incognito” shot of them from the animated version. It’s likely that we’ll see a different look for them very soon, so check back for updates.
Scripted by Stephen Chbosky, the new film will be produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the 1991 animated version, has written three new songs for the production with Sir Tim Rice.
Beauty and the Beast will hit theaters on March 17, 2017. The 25th Anniversary Blu-ray, meanwhile, will be available September 20. You can click here to pre-order it.
