According to Deadline, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, Arrival, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is set to join Johnny Depp in the Open Road Films crime drama LAbyrinth, which follows an investigation into the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG in 1996 and ’97, respectively.
Depp will play a disgraced L.A.P.D. detective unable to crack the case. Whitaker will take on the role of a journalist who teams with him in order to find both truth and redemption on a path that sets them directly against the L.A.P.D.
Brad Furman (The Infiltrator, The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct LAbyrinth from the Black List screenplay adapted by Christian Contreras from Randall Sullivan’s book. Miriam Segal and her Good Films label will produce.
