Canon released a firmware update for its professional grade XF305 and XF300 camcorders on Thursday that will give users the ability to shoot 3D HD videos. Two units need to be combined in order to perform this, however. The 3D Assist Function is part of the update, as is a Scan Reverse function, Double Slot Recording for backup, and the option to disable Relay Recording.
There is also an OIS Lens Shift feature that optically aligns the two camcorders to make sure they’re both on the same plane. A Focal Length Guide will help display the zoom position of each camera in relation to the other and calibrate them. The Scan Reverse function lets recorded images to be flipped on either the horizontal or vertical axis or both at the same time when using mirror rigs.
The feature will be shown off at the NAB show in Las Vegas next week.
