Google today released an update to Gmail today that modifies the interface for iPhone and iPod touch owners. Its change swaps out the old floating tool bars, which only appeared at the end of a scroll, for a set of fixed bars which stay during the entire scroll. The simple change makes it easier to rapidly delete or flag messages on the smaller screen.
The design’s scroll speed is also faster and now moves proportionately with the flick gesture itself. Gmail’s new interface needs the newer web code from iOS 4 and is currently only available in English, though other languages are coming.
