Google has added another core Android application to the growing list of those that can be updated outside of full-on system upgrades. Google made the generic email application that ships on many Android phones (separate from the official Gmail app) available as a stand-alone app in the Play Store.
The app can handle IMAP, POP, and Exchange email services such as Yahoo, Hotmail, or Outlook. This app is often skinned by the network operator selling the phone in question.
Google offers stand-alone versions of Gmail, Maps, Hangouts, the Camera, and others so more Android device owners can enjoy new features in these apps without the need to update their entire device.
