The new version of Google Earth, 6, is now ready for download. The free app for Macs, Linux and Windows PCs now sports 3D trees and an integrated Street View feature that lets users view the Earth from space and zoom in directly to Street View.
Google created 3D models for more than 50 different species of trees and placed over 80 million in the world’s largest cities, focusing on those with already high detail like New York or San Francisco. Eventually, Google will bring realistic images of threatened forests from around the world to Google Earth. The feature requires turning on the 3D buildings layer.
