HTC has revealed it will stop selling tablet devices in the US. The market is saturated and Apple’s iPad is far and away the leading offering, according to HTC’s global online communications manager, Jeff Gordon. He did indicate the company will keep an eye on the market, however, and may return with a product it feels will adequately compete with the market leader.
In the past two years, HTC launched three tablets in the US, including the Flyer, Evo View 4G, and Jetstream, though none of them are still on sale now. All used Google’s Android operating system.
“It was a great learning experience for us, and they definitely met expectations,” Gordon said, as per a FierceWireless report. If it does return in the future, HTC may take on smaller and lower-endtablets such as Google’s Nexus 7, which offers Wi-Fi access only. It’s open to either this option or the high-end spectrum, as its previous devices ranged from $300 to $700 in price.
By moving away from tablets, HTC joins LG and HP who also exited the market recently.
