Clear Channel Radio today announced that, just 20 weeks after launch, the iHeartRadio application for the iPhone has been downloaded more than one million times. The company also revealed that iHeartRadio is bucking reported user trends, with use growing an average of 13% per week since launch. All in, the online and mobile audience for iHeartRadio is increasing the total audience for Clear Channel Radio by up to 15%
“The reception of iHeartRadio from iPhone users has exceeded all of our expectations,” said Evan Harrison, executive vice president of Clear Channel Radio and president of the company’s Online Music & Radio unit. “Our commitment to a high-quality user experience has clearly been embraced by listeners.”
Clear Channel Radio streams iHeartRadio content at 64kbytes and uses the AAC audio codec format instead of MP3. The vastly superior listener experience and massive selection of content has quickly translated to impressive audience statistics:
- iHeartRadio is now a Top 100 free iPhone app, out of some 25,000 currently available, and is the #4 free music application;
- weekly uniques are up 43% since launch, according to data from Limelight; and
- total audience is growing at 13% per week, measuring time-spent-listening in minutes, bucking the reported use trends of other iPhone apps.
iHeartRadio content includes more than 150 of America’s favorite radio stations, including the best in local radio, genre-defying channels like erockster and Pride Radio, top sports and talk personalities, and even traffic reports for New York and Los Angeles.
Separately, the company announced that a beta of iheartradio for the RIM BlackBerry is now available at iheartradio.com.
