Intel has shipped its latest the six core processor, the Core i7-990X Extreme Edition. While it uses the same 32nm architecture as the Core i7 980X Extreme Edition, clock speed has been increased to 3.46GHz. With Intel’s Turbo Boost mode, processor speed can be increased to 3.73GHz without risking heat damage.
The i7 990X has 12MB of Level 3 cache, three DDR3 channels of 1066MHz memory, and supports hyperthreading of up to 12 computing threads. The new processor also ships with unlocked timing multipliers for those who love overclocking.
