IOGEAR has announced its latest computer-to-TV connection kit, featuring Ultra-Wideband (UWB) wireless USB to allow “mirror-mode” computer use, video chatting or presentation of media such as movies and photos up to 720P wirelessly to a television, monitor or projector up to 30 feet away.
The kit, model GUWAVKIT2, uses a simple base station attached to the “transmitting” computer via USB, with Windows machines (XP or higher) needing included software to coordinate the transmission (Mac users must be on 10.5.8 or better). The receiving station is attached to the TV or projector via HDMI or VGA. Audio from the transmitting computer is connected using a 3.5mm plug.
The device operates in the 3.1 to 4.8 GHz frequency range, and although the UWB standard supports some level of speed at up to 30 feet, Iogear recommends that the transmitting computer be in the same room (ie within 10 feet) as the receiving TV or projector for best speed, up to 480Mbits/second.
Additional receiver units can be added to make it possible to project more than one image from a single source. The kit is available now and sells for $179.99
