A new report by Deadline has Jamie Foxx is re-teaming with his Ray director Taylor Hackford for Signal Hill, the upcoming true story drama which stars Anthony Mackie as attorney Johnnie Cochran over a decade before he became involved in the O.J. Simpson murder case.
Set in 1981, Cochran made a name for himself in his unrelenting pursuit of justice in the Signal Hill police brutality case. Foxx will play Elmer ‘Geronimo’ Pratt, a former Black Panther party leader and Vietnam veteran.
Cochran helped overturn his murder conviction which sent Pratt to prison for 27 years for a crime he says he didn’t commit. Pratt to settle a false imprisonment suit for $4.5 million in 1992.
Elizabeth Banks also stars as Mary Neiswender, an investigative newspaper reporter for the Long Beach Press-Telegram who investigated and broke stories on the cover-up. David McMillan penned the script while Mackie, Jason Spire, Robbie Brenner, Kevin McKeon and Jeff Kwatinetz will produce.
