Jawbone Makes Liquipel 2.0 Water Resistance an Option to Jambox Speakers

Jawbone is giving customers the ability to make their portable speakers water-resistant, when extra protection via a hydrophobic coating is bought from its website. The Jambox and Mini Jambox now lists an option to add Liquipel 2.0 to the devices as a $50 extra, making the regular-sized version cost $200, and the smaller model $230.

The extra Liquipel 2.0 coating gives the hardware an IPX-5 rating, reports Engadget. Though this does not allow for the submergence of the IPX-7 rating, it does allow the Jambox to survive when it is accidentally splashed with water or exposed to rain.

Though the hydrophobic coating option is available for the two smaller models in the Jambox range, it is unclear if the same treatment will be offered for the largest. The Big Jambox, measuring 10 inches long and weighing 2.7 pounds, is supplied with a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, though its size and weight lends itself less to portability, and in turn makes it an unlikely candidate for Liquipel.
