Back in December, we reported on five of the actresses that were in the running for the upcoming fifth installment of Disney’s popular franchise, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but now Deadline is saying that British actress Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner), one of the five mentioned earlier, is closing in on the female lead.
Scodelario, who starred in the Sundance drama The Truth About Emanuel, is currently shooting the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and will likely start filming the next “Pirates” movie once that’s done.
Despite a number of delays, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will start shooting in Australia soon, directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg of the Oscar-nominated foreign film Kon-Tiki, and Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush (and apparently Orlando Bloom) are all returning with Javier Bardem reportedly taking on the villain role.
