E-book vendor Kobo today announced its limited-edition Kobo Aura HD e-ink e-book reader. The 6.8-inch Pearl touchscreen runs at an e-ink industry-high of 265 DPI. The device’s 1GHz Freescale i.MX507 processor makes the new device the fastest e-reader on the market, according to the company.
The Kobo Aura HD has 4GB of storage to store thousands of e-books, and has a battery life of up to two months. Storage is expandable to 32GB with a microSD card. Illumination of displayed text is provided by Kobo’s ComfortLight technology.
File formats natively supported by the device include ePub, PDF, MOBI, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, TXT, HTML, XHTML, RTF, CBZ, and CBR. The device also includes Wi-Fi connectivity an a “experimental” web browser.
Kobo Aura HD will be available for pre-order in North America for $169 starting April 16 at the Kobo website. The device will be in stores in Canada and the United Kingdom starting April 25. Availability in most other countries will begin in May.
