Kogeto has announced the Dot, a video accessory for the iPhone 4. Dot is actually a special optical device that fits over the iPhone’s existing lens to produce a 360-degree view. The resulting captured video can be uploaded to Facebook or Twitter, or shared with others using Kogeto’s web-based streaming service. A custom optic automatically aligns with the iPhone 4’s built-in camera to make sure the Dot is shooting properly.
Dot owners will be able to download a companion iPhone app Looker from the App Store. The download enables users to shoot, browse and share panoramic videos. When two or more Dots are in one location, Looker can link together the videos from those Dot users. A Looker subscriber can then view the event from multiple perspectives. A basic version of Looker will be free, but pricing for a fuller-featured version hasn’t been given out so far.
While the Dot ship date is undisclosed, it is available for preorder for $100. In addition to Dot, Kogeto has developed Lucy, a panoramic view video camera for the educational market.
