Borat helmer Larry Charles has, according to Deadline, signed on to write an American remake of the 2001 Australian hit comedy The Man Who Sued God. It is suggested that Charles is a likely candidate to direct the project as well.
New Films International is developing the film, which will reimagine the plot of the Mark Joffe. That film stars Billy Connolly as a man who takes on the Almighty in court after his insurance claim is dismissed due to an “act of God”.
Charles became well-known as a writer on “Seinfeld” and made his big screen directorial debut with 2003’s Masked & Anonymous, the all-star ensemble co-written and headlined by Bob Dylan. Charles went on to helm three Sacha Baron Cohen comedies, Borat, Bruno and The Dictator and also directed the Bill Maher documentary Religulous.
Nesim Hason and Mace Neufeld are producing The Man Who Sued God for New Films alongside Sam Feuer and Richard Harding of Sixth Sense Productions.
