Tim Allen’s comedy Last Man Standing was cancelled by ABC after six seasons. We here at Tot were somewhat surprised since the show had solid numbers. At the same time multi-camera sitcoms are on the way out which the networks.
Last week at ABC Upfront meeting, network president Channing Dungey said the show did not fix the schedule any longer and the show would not be profitable for ABC since they would have to cover the costs for a seventh season. In the past 20th Century Fox TV had been paying all or most of the costs covering recording the show.
Some on the right have been call foul and claiming the cancellation is due to Allen’s openly Republican-leaning politics. An online petition to bring the show back has over 380,000 supporters to date.
Now it look like 20th Century Fox is working to find the show a new home. We are sure there may be some legal and/or contractual issues that would need to be worked out. Plus there is the small little item of finding a new network of service to air the show. But at least there is s doctor doing CPR on the show to keep it alive.
