LG is preparing to step up its Ultra HD television efforts in the United States, by planning to ship a pair of 4K-capable televisions. Already announced for release in South Korea, the two UHDTVs will be reaching the US later this month, alongside price cuts on existing UHD offerings, as well as its on-sale curved 55-inch OLED HDTV.
The new LA9650 devices, measuring 65 inches and 55 inches, will be shipping in the US this month with price tags of $5,000 and $3,500 respectively, according to Engadget. The televisions offer LG’s Smart TV and Cinema 3D, powered by its Tru-Ultra HD Engine for upscaling content and a new HEVC decoder for H.265 content. The IPS panel is edge-lit, and uses LG’s LED Plus technology, which offers increased brightness control via edge LED local dimming. A four-mode Magic Remote offers an air mouse, gesture commands, a scroll wheel, and voice recognition for navigation, and connectivity options including LG Smart Share, DLNA, WiDi, Miracast, MHL, and 2nd Display are also included.
Also able to show an Ultra HD image, the LA9700 series will be cut in price for both its 65 and 55-inch versions, down to $6,500 and $4,500 respectively. These two offer a 4.1-channel 50-Watt sound system with a motorized sound bar that appears below the screen when the TV is turned on, LG’s Smart TV features, and four flicker-free 3D glasses.
The curved 55-inch OLED television, with a HD resolution and THX Display Certification, will be going down in price from its launch $15,000 to $10,000.
