LG Innotek today announced the Quick Wireless Charging Pad, a way for smartphone owners to rapidly charge their mobile devices.
The Quick Wireless Charging Pad relies on the Wireless Power Consortium, or Qi, wireless charging spec and supplies 15 W of power. LG Innotek says the pad can provide a 50% charge to many of its phones in just 30 minutes.
The pad has special technology to prevent it from overheating. The pad measures the temperature at the point of contact between the pad and the phone, and will automatically cease supplying power if a certain threshold is surpassed.
LG Innotek said it may create similar wireless charging products for cars and furniture. The Quick Wireless Charging Pad will go on sale in North America, Europe, and Australia later this month. LG Innotek did not reveal pricing information.
