The Monolith is heading for the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter. According to the trade, Lionsgate is making a Monolith movie, based on the comic book series by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray of PaperFilms Inc.
Dave Wilson, who is the creative director at Deadpool helmer Tim Miller’s Blur Studios, will direct from a script by Barnett Brettler. The project will mark Wilson’s feature directorial debut. Erwin Stoff (13 Hours, Burnt) is producing.
In The Monolith, we are introduced to Alice Cohen, a down-and-out ex-junkie who inherits a house in Brooklyn from her deceased grandmother. Alice discovers her diary and begins to read the tale of a lost love and revenge that begins in the factories of New York during the depression and shows the creation of a monster bent on revenge for the slaying of a good honest man.
The 12-issue comic book series was originally published by DC Comics from 2004 through 2005. The rights have since returned to Palmiotti and Gray.
