Logitech on Thursday formally kicked off its first self-created tablet accessory line both for iPads and for Android 3 tablets. The Tablet Keyboardas the centerpiece is tailored in versions both for Apple- and Google-based tablets and has key layouts specific to each design, including shortcuts for locking the screen or media playback. Either pairs over Bluetooth and has a separate stand that both serves as a case for the keyboard and can prop up a tablet in portrait or landscape modes.
The two variants cost the same $70 and will be available before the end of May.
Also shared among both is the Wireless Speaker Z515, a general Bluetooth stereo system that works with virtually any platform, including Macs and Windows PCs. Logitech hasn’t given power output but promises about 10 hours of wireless use on its rechargeable battery. They ship to the US in June for $100.
Each platform has one unique option. Android gets the Tablet Mouse; although a mild reworking of an existing laser mouse, it will give Android 3.1 users a way to steer the tablet like a notebook over a Bluetooth connection with four-way scrolling. It arrives this month for $50.
The iPad-specific entry is the already unveiled Keyboard Case, a joint project with ZAGG that can at once protect the iPad while unfolding into a traditional notebook shape. Logitech sells it for $100.
