Netflix is in discussions with Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp to have the famed French filmmaker direct and produce several films for the streaming giant over the next few years.
The projects would be Netflix originals and will each be budgeted in the $30 million range. The deal could also see Netflix buy into EuropaCorp’s library, which has an estimated value of $186 million and includes the Taken, Taxi and Transporter franchises.
EuropaCorp is struggling to climb out from under a heavy debt load estimated at $285 million as of September and since then potential buyers and investors are circling with Netflix now among them.
Besson is currently filming Anna with Helen Mirren.
