The very successful Knights of Sidonia manga penned by Tustomu Nihei will finally come to the end of its Japanese run at the end of this September after a total of six years.
Starting back in 2009 within the pages of Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine, Knights of Sidonia pitched the last remnants of humanity aboard a generational starship fighting for survival against a mysterious alien enemy called the Gauna.
The titular “knights” of the starship Sidonia were in fact pilots of giant mecha called Guardians. One of these pilots was the unique Tanikaze Nagate who was awarded an older though very powerful Guardian type called the Tsugumori (shown above right), as his skills were truly formidable.
Due to the success of the manga an anime has been produced, that has also seen great popularity both in Japan and in the West. With the latter release being handled by Netflix and Sentai Filmworks.
