The creative writing team of Clint McElroy and his sons, Justin, Travis and Griffin, announced Thursday morning on their website that they are teaming up with Marvel Comics to produce “War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery,” a five-issue limited series that will be available in comic book stores and online beginning April 10.
The new series will be written by Clint, Griffin, Justin and Travis, and drawn by Andre Lima Araujo, with covers by Valerio Schiti.
They describe “War of the Realms: Journey Into Mystery” as “taking you to a world where Earth is at war, besieged by an army of Frost Giants, Trolls and Fire Goblins — and the mighty Thor is nowhere to be found. When it turns out that the key to stopping the war might be Thor’s baby sister, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Wonder Man, Sebastian Druid, Death Locket, Thori the Hellhound and Balder the Brave must go on an epic quest to save Earth’s only hope.”
This will be just one of their writing projects of 2019. On July 16, there will be a second book, “The Adventure Zone: Murder on the Rockport Limited,” which is based off of their hit fantasy podcast, “The Adventure Zone.” In 2018, their debut graphic novel, “The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins” (First Second Books) became the first graphic novel to hit the No. 1 spot on the New York Times Best Selling Fiction list.
The McElroy family is coming off of a hometown reunion as their fifth annual sold-out “Candlenights” show at the Jean C. Stephenson Auditorium at City Hall on Dec. 22 drew fans from across the country. That show raised a total of $51,200 for local charities.
Fans of their “My Brother, My Brother and Me” hit comedy podcast stepped up for the fifth straight year to fill 100 stockings as part of the Empty Stockings list published in The Herald-Dispatch of the needs of folks helped by local agencies.
“A massive and deeply heartfelt thank you to everyone who was a Candlenights Star or donated to MBMBaM Angels this year,” the brothers wrote in their fan newsletter. “Thanks to the MBMBaM Angels, all 100 stockings were fully claimed and $15,000 was raised on top of that. That money is being used to buy 15 beds, a whole slew of appliances, and winter clothes and toys for an additional 30 children who weren’t on the original list. Over 800 Candlenights Stars were purchased, and nearly $19,000 raised for the Women’s Health Center of West Virginia. In addition to all of this, proceeds from ‘Candlenights’ tickets and merch came out to almost $16,500 that is being donated to Recovery Point. That includes over $700 in donations made on-site to the Clown Box. We’ve said it before, but your generosity never ceases to amaze us. It’s truly humbling, and we are eternally grateful for the love you show to us and our hometown.”
