Mercedes-AMG plans a four-door sports car with optional electric power based on a concept introduced at the Geneva auto show. The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept is the second AMG model equipped with “EQ Power+,” Mercedes said, noting that it can be operated in three modes: pure electric, pure combustion or a combination of both.
“With the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept, we are giving a preview of our third completely independently developed sports car and are extending the attractive AMG GT family to include a four-door variant,” said Tobias Moers, chairman of Mercedes-AMG.
The concept has key design features that are similar to the AMG GT coupe and roadster, including the grille, front end accents and rear. The automaker finished the concept in a Hot Red paint that is supposed to shimmer in the light, Mercedes said.
“Through ideal proportions it creates a pure design with emphasis on its surfaces, featuring sensuous shapes, and is hot and cool at the same time,” Gorden Wagener, Daimler’s chief design officer, said in a statement.
The concept is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 biturbo engine that is paired with an electric motor and a fully variable AMG performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. Mercedes said the concept can hit 60 mph in less than three seconds.
